The story unfolds
Castaway tells the powerful story of Victor Martinez, a devout Catholic father forced to cast out his queer teenage son, Jaime, under the crushing pressure of his conservative wife and religious community. As Victor’s faith begins to falter, he embarks on a deeply personal and painful journey of self-reflection. The walls of his marriage start to crumble, weighed down by guilt, doubt, and newfound empathy. In a bold act of courage and redemption, Victor reaches out to Jaime and risks everything he’s known to heal the wounds he caused and challenge the beliefs that once defined him.
This deeply personal exploration of the tension between love and rejection, and between the families we are born into and the people we become when we are cast aside. At its heart, Castaway examines what it means to navigate the fragile space between belonging and exile, and how those fractures can shape the course of an entire life.
